ORANGE COUNTY, Calif., April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Sponsor Me athlete, Makua Rothman, has been nominated for the 2010 Billabong XXL Biggest Wave of the Year Award for his epic ride at Jaws/Peahi, Maui.

The two time world tow-in champion, Makua Rothman, dubbed the Crown Prince of The North Shore said, "I am stoked to be part of these awards once again. It feels good to be recognized as a top athlete in my respective sport." Makua Rothman is no stranger to the awards show. He won the Billabong XXL Big Wave Award in 2003 for his ride on a jaw dropping 66-foot behemoth of a wave at Jaws/Peahi, Maui at the young age of 18.

Makua Rothman's manager Chris Carmichael said, "It is always exciting when your athlete is up for an award. Makua worked really hard this year, and he deserves the nomination and the win." Makua Rothman stepped his game up in 2009 by hiring world renowned trainer Robert Garcia to train him for the stresses and tolls the body takes while surfing big waves.  Robert Garcia has trained sports icons to the like of Kelly Slater, Sunny Garcia, and Oscar De La Hoya. "When you fall on these big waves it is like being dropped from a 10 story building and hit by a cement truck. Being in top physical shape is a must for me," said Makua Rothman.

The 10th annual Billabong XXL Big Wave Awards take place today Friday April 23rd at 7:30 p.m. Pacific Time in beautiful Orange County, California. The award show will be aired via a live webcast on BillabongXXL.com.
