Registration for the Spirits of Mexico is now open! Presented by IWSC Group's North American division, Spirits of Mexico (SOM) is the premier spirits competition in North America for agave-based spirits produced in Mexico.
IWSC Group is the world leader in organizing wine and spirit competitions globally, including the illustrious International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC). In March 2015, The IWSC Group launched a North American division, which now oversees the SOM competition.

"Last year, we made a number of enhancements to the competition by recruiting a new panel of highly-recognized judges and implementing new judging procedures that aligned more closely with the International Wine & Spirit Competition standards. This year, we will continue to grow the competition and award-winners will see increased visibility at the other events in the IWSC Group portfolio, including the Atlanta Food & Wine Festival and the Sugar Land Wine & Food Affair."
Judges for the 2016 competition include Junior Merino, New York, NY; Jason Silverman, New York, NY; Clayton Szczech, Mexico City, MX; Todd Thrasher, Alexandria, VA and Kellie Thorn, Atlanta, GA.
Any commercial, agave-based spirit produced in Mexico is eligible for participation in Spirits of Mexico. Product samples are presented in flights in a blind competition and evaluate based on criteria consistent with the evaluation standards of the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC). All judging is by region/area, variety/style/type, and vintage/age with special categories for Craft Spirits (less than 52,000 cases produced annually). Judges base scores on appearance, aromatics, flavor, mouthfeel and finish, awarding a maximum of 100 points.
