WICHITA, Kan., Nov. 18, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Spirit AeroSystems, Inc. (NYSE: SPR) today announced that Spirit AeroSystems (Europe) Ltd. and Lufthansa Technik AG have entered into a multi-year cooperation agreement related to the joint provision of repair, overhaul and supply services for the CFM56-7B and GE90-94/-115 thrust reversers and cowlings operated by Lufthansa Technik's customers in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region. Under this agreement, Lufthansa Technik and Spirit AeroSystems will utilize each other's repair facilities and capabilities in the EMEA region as well as other support elements for each company's respective repair and overhaul services. In response to the growing regional demand for the supply, repair and overhaul of GE90 nacelle components, Lufthansa Technik and Spirit AeroSystems will place inventory, including GE90 thrust reversers and cowlings, in the Lufthansa Technik Middle East Services' headquarter location in Dubai. The regional availability of such oversized components in the Middle East will allow operators to avoid the high expedited transportation costs associated with such components.
"The strategic deployment of rotable assets and collaboration in key markets are key elements of our global growth initiatives," said Jeff Tomei, director of business development, sales, and marketing – Spirit AeroSystems Aftermarket Customer Support. "We are pleased to be working with a global MRO leader in Lufthansa Technik."
"We are looking forward to working closely together with one of the world's largest designers and manufacturers of thrust reversers and cowlings," said Heike Hartmann, director of Lufthansa Technik's airframe related component (ARC®) business unit. "By combining the strengths and experience of each company, we each anticipate improving our customers' supplier performance on nacelle components and reducing their repair, overhaul and logistics costs."
