SpineCenterNetwork.com Provides Free Home Remedy Book for Back Pain for Summer Activities
DALLAS, May 24, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- SpineCenterNetwork.com, the only national listing of spine centers that meet credentialing criteria, is providing a free Home Remedy Book for Back Pain just in time for summer activities in 2017.
The 36-page Home Remedy Book is distributed by the regional spine centers within the network to residents of their state as a free community service. According to Dr. James Lynch, a fellowship-trained spine surgeon and founder of SpineNevada, the Home Remedy Book has symptom charts that show when to go to the doctor, along with home remedies and special stretches a person can do in their own home to relieve back and neck pain symptoms. "People don't understand that with back or neck problems, pain is not a good indicator of when you need to see a doctor," explains Dr. Lynch. "With back or neck problems, the emergency symptoms are loss of bowel/bladder control, and weakness and numbness in the hand or foot. If emergency symptoms are not addressed within a few days, they can become permanent and lifelong. Unfortunately, people don't associate those symptoms with a back or neck problem. So we have a challenge to educate people, and that's what this Home Remedy Book does."
SpineCenterNetwork.com currently features 15 multi-disciplinary spine centers from Alaska to South Carolina. The spine centers include fellowship-trained spine surgeons (the highest level of medical education); physical medicine MDs specialized in spine; and affiliated spine therapists. All the centers emphasize non-surgical treatment options and second opinions for spine surgery. If spine surgery is necessary, the centers provide the most advanced minimally invasive techniques that shorten the incision and enable patients to be home the same day. Advanced technology like the artificial disc is also provided by many of the spine centers.
"Sadly, many people in 2017 will be told they need spine surgery," adds Dr. Greg McLoughlin, a fellowship-trained spine surgeon at South Carolina Spine Center. "In many cases, there are non-surgical options that can relieve some symptoms of a herniated disc. Other times, if surgery is necessary, the best spine centers can operate through tubular retractors that enable the trained surgeon to treat the herniated disc through a one-inch incision for less time in the hospital, less need for donated blood and a faster return to activity."
SpineCenterNetwork.com is a byproduct of meetings with insurance companies who wanted a national list of spine centers that emphasized conservative care first, explains Bob Reznik, MBA, president of Prizm Development which specializes in spine center set up. "Studies by Dartmouth Medical Atlas have documented tremendous treatment variation in spine surgery rates," adds Reznik. "The solution is a multi-disciplinary spine center with surgeons and NON-surgical spine MDs working together under one roof."
According to David Abraham, MD, a fellowship-trained spine surgeon and founder of Reading Neck and Spine Center in Reading, PA, a multi-disciplinary spine center eliminates the frustration experienced by those with back or neck pain. "Too many times the person with back or neck pain has to drive to a doctor's office, then to a diagnostic center, then to a different location for therapy," says Dr. Abraham. "Because the clinicians are not connected, the patient has to explain their problem multiple times to providers who don't communicate with each other or share the same patient chart. This fragmentation can result in the patient being told different diagnoses and treatment plans."
