AURORA, Colo., Oct. 30, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Spin, the leading stationless bikeshare company in North America, today announced it is officially launching in Aurora, CO, the first of several Colorado cities that the company hopes to enter in short order. Starting today, Spin's solar-powered, GPS-enabled, self-locking smart bikes will be distributed across Aurora to provide an innovative, equitable mode of transportation for the city. Unlike traditional bikeshare systems, Spin's dockless bikes require no fixed racks, can be parked anywhere, and won't cost the city a penny.
"We are thrilled to bring Spin's dockless bikeshare system to Aurora," said Spin co-founder and CEO Derrick Ko. "We applaud Aurora's innovative and forward-thinking leadership, whom we have worked closely with at every step of the way, and we are excited to be a part of this incredible community."
Spin will kick off its new service in Aurora, Colorado's third largest city, with 250 bikes and expects to bring thousands more to town as demand increases. Spin is uniquely suited to complement Aurora's current light rail and bus systems by providing the public an affordable car-free mobility option to commute, explore, and get around the city.
"We are excited to welcome Spin to join our growing dockless bike-share network," said city of Aurora Planner Brenden Paradies. "Bike sharing offers additional mobility options within our city's transportation network, and we look forward to watching dockless bike sharing become a favorite way for residents to get around town."
Following the company's announcement of its $8M Series A funding round in May, Spin's Aurora launch continues the company's rapid growth trajectory, and is the company's third launch in two weeks, following Rochester Institute of Technology and Furman University. In addition to Aurora, Spin has launched in major U.S. markets including Washington, D.C., Dallas, Seattle, Silicon Valley, and South San Francisco.
