Spice Up Your Life with Mexican Culinary Delights
LONDON, August 1, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
Mexican food shouldn't just be a cuisine reserved for your holidays. Read on to find out how to create a delicious Mexican feast at home to compare to the real thing.
What is Mexican cuisine?
Mexican cooking involves a huge variety of ingredients, colourful spices and lively flavours. Mexican cuisine is a result of numerous indigenous cultures blending together. The cuisine was recognised by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) as part of the world's 'intangible cultural heritage'.
Mexican food staples are mainly beans and corn. Masa is made from corn, which is the dough for gorditas, tortillas and tamales. Corn can also be seen eaten fresh from the cob. Like Indian food, Mexican cooking also relies heavily upon chilli peppers, garlic and onions. Rice made its way into the cuisine after the Spanish brought it in from North Africa. You may think nachos are also a Mexican creation but they are actually an American dish based on a toasted Mexican flatbread called totopo.
A Mexican meal at home
To create a tasty Mexican meal with minimal time and fuss you're better off embracing the blended cuisine and sticking to something simple. Fajitas with chicken or beef are easy to do in the oven and you can even buy handy pre-prepared tortillas and salsa in a kit pack from any good supermarket. Combine that with a side of shop-bought refried beans and a big plate of nachos and you'll have a Mexican feast the whole family can enjoy. Rope the kids in to help you make your own salsa and guacamole if you're feeling adventurous.
Nothing like the real thing
If you want to taste genuine Mexican food, why not think holiday to Mexico 2012? There are numerous delicious regional variations from beef and goat dishes in the north to the spicy vegetable and chicken dishes of the south. You can get great food from street vendors and unlike in some countries, it's considered a typical way to buy a meal.
You can discover much more than the food on all inclusive Mexico holidays. It's a country with a rich cultural and architectural heritage and it happens to have great weather and world class beaches to boot. You will find numerous quaint and quiet fishing villages if you want to hunt down the tranquil side of the country. But if you fancy trying out the tequila and really letting your hair down, you can find lots of great value deals on cheap package holidays to Cancun, the party capital of Mexico.
