CHICAGO, March 2, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Sphera, the leading global provider of operational risk, environmental performance and product stewardship software solutions and information services, today announced the launch of the Sphera Assessments mobile application. This new app seamlessly enables users of the Sphera Impact enterprise operational risk management solution to intuitively perform and synchronize event reporting, field observations, and status updates. It also takes employees through the revision and approval workflows directly from their mobile devices regardless of their location.
The app not only eliminates the need for workers to manage an unreliable paper trail, but also gives workers a better way to record any risk observations they make. Because traditional reporting can be tedious and cumbersome, some front-line workers may overlook potential incidents or contributing conditions. Sphera's research shows that approximately one-third of all field observations are not reported. That lack of reported safety data can be dangerous for workers and an unnecessary risk for employers. There were 2.9 million nonfatal workplace injuries in 2015, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
By allowing companies to identify and address potential risks at any organizational level as well as integrate root cause analysis with preventive measures and assign and track actions, organizations have a faster and more comprehensive way to assess—and mitigate—operational risk.
"Companies that focus on workplace safety as part of an Operational Excellence strategy have proven to produce superior financial results and create a more productive and sustainable business model," said Paul Marushka, Sphera's president and CEO. "This new app represents a key component of our investment in mobile technology as we expand our research and development to advance our solutions and platforms to meet the needs of today's companies that demand on-the-go and cloud-based systems and services."
In order to ensure safe and reliable operations, asset-intensive organizations require their employees to report observations or perform audits wherever and whenever they occur. Yet, not every employee has direct access to a computer; and many observations are still captured on paper forms, requiring additional manual data entry and augmentation.
Using Speech to Text with the app, workers are able to record observations without having to type on their mobile device. Additionally, field employees can seamlessly complement their reports with pictures or recorded videos and audio statements
"The new mobile app empowers field employees to be able to report observations or perform audits and capture data on the spot;" said Andy Hosman, Sphera's vice president of Operational Risk. "This results in assessments taking less time to complete, and they'll help paint a more-complete picture. They are also able to save a partial assessment report of any type as a work-in-progress, get on with their work and complete the report at a later time—helping drive efficiencies and adoption of safety reporting initiatives."
The Sphera Assessments app is available for iOS 9.0 or higher, Android 4.4 or higher and Sphera Impact 6.2.7 or higher. You can download the app from the App Store or Google Play.
