Spend the Weekend Up a Tree - with 50 Crafty Climbers
Husqvarna sponsors Charlotte Arborists Association's Annual Tree Climbing Competition at Freedom Park
CHARLOTTE, N.C., April 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Charlotte's best tree climbers will be going go out on a limb this weekend – with a boost from Husqvarna.
The Charlotte Arborists Association's Annual Tree Climbing Competition will feature 50 of the area's finest arborists, scaling up and down trees as they vie for the title of Master Tree Climbing Champion, as well as cash and prizes from Husqvarna. The Charlotte-based company, the world's largest producer of outdoor power products, is co-sponsoring the competition with Mecklenburg County Parks and Recreation.
The free-to-the-public event – taking place Saturday, April 28 and Sunday, April 29, beginning at 8 a.m. at Freedom Park, 1900 East Boulevard – will test each arborist's skills in five preliminary events, with the top scorers competing for the championship on Sunday. Throughout the competition, the arborists will be demonstrating proper technique and equipment used in tree care and safe working practices.
The winner, who will receive a Husqvarna 562 XP® saw, will advance to the Regional Tree Climbing championships. Prizes for finalists include a variety of Husqvarna products, ranging from arborist saws to safety apparel.
"Arborists take pride in preserving our nation's trees, and this competition is a fun way to display their abilities, raise awareness for the industry and stress the importance of using high-quality equipment," said Jim Parello, director of marketing for Husqvarna. "I encourage Charlotte residents to stop by, enjoy the events and try out their own climbing skills."
Saturday's activities will include a free Fun Climb open to the public. Sponsored by Arborguard Tree Specialists, the Fun Climb gives kids and adults the chance to try tree climbing with professionals.
