Speed Limit Restrictions Lifted on South-Central PA Interstates, Expressways
45 MPH Limits Still in Effect on Several Pennsylvania Roadways
HARRISBURG, Pa., Feb. 26 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As of 4:30 p.m. today, the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, PennDOT and the state police lifted the speed restrictions on many south-central Pennsylvania roadways.
The roadways no longer subject to the reduced 45 mph speed are:
- I-81 from the Maryland line to the junction of I-78;
- I-83 from the Maryland line in York County to the junction with I-81 in Dauphin County;
- I-283 in Dauphin County;
- U.S. 22 and 322 in Perry County;
- U.S. 11 and 15 in Perry County and U.S. 15 from the Maryland line in Adams County through York and Cumberland counties;
- Pennsylvania Route 283 in Dauphin and Lancaster counties; and
- Pennsylvania Route 581 in Dauphin and Cumberland counties.
The lower speed limit is still in effect for the following interstates:
- I-81 from the I-78 split in Lebanon County to the New York state line;
- I-78 from the I-81 split in Lebanon County to Exit 45, Lynnport/New Smithville; and
- All of I-84 and I-380
Although PennDOT will have crews treating roadways around the clock, the department's primary goal is to keep roads passable, not completely free of ice and snow. PennDOT will continue to treat roadways throughout the storm until precipitation stops and roads are clear.
PEMA also reminds citizen that downloadable materials, including home and car emergency kit checklists and emergency plan templates, are available at www.ReadyPA.org or by calling 1-888-9-READYPA.
Because weather and road conditions can deteriorate quickly, motorists should always check the weather forecast before traveling. Road conditions for interstates and some limited-access highways are available by visiting www.511pa.com before you leave home, or by calling 511 while stopped in a safe location.
