Speech Pathologist Creates Snack for People Who Have Difficulty Swallowing
The EAT Bar brings the joy of eating to everyone
CHICAGO and MINNEAPOLIS, March 5, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- A new bar promises to bring the joy of eating to people who have trouble swallowing or who struggle with appetite and getting enough calories.
The EAT Bar is on a mission to bring joy, delight and pleasure to everyone's everyday through a small, delicious treat. This melt-in-your-mouth bar provides easy calories for children and adults who may have difficulty swallowing, a loss of appetite or taste, sensory issues or failure to thrive.
The EAT Bar is the vision of a speech language pathologist who saw patients, families and caregivers struggle to find real food options that were tolerable and satisfying. The bar is a transitional food that may be suitable for use with Level 7 - Level 5 foods (IDDSI framework).
"Food is so much more than just a source of nutrition," said co-founder, Tia Bagan. "I have come to realize it's truly a central part of the human experience. Everyone has a story of somebody who won't or can't eat. I'm so thrilled that I get to help change that."
Initial responses to the EAT Bar have been overwhelming. A toddler with sensory issues had always struggled to eat solid foods until he tried the easy-to-swallow bar. A young, blind girl on a feeding tube was able to independently feed herself thanks to the bar's simplicity. A woman undergoing cancer treatments raved that the bar's sweet taste took the awful medicine taste out of her mouth. A man in hospice care enjoyed the EAT Bar as his only comfort food prior to his passing.
"I am a fan of this product because it can easily generalize to a bar on the shelf at the grocery store," said Jonathan Waller from Dysphagia Café. "Hopefully, our patients will have more "normal" food options like this in the future."
The EAT Bar comes in four delicious flavors (Strawberry, Lemon, White Chocolate and Dark Chocolate) and is GMO-free, gluten-free, nut-free and Kosher. The EAT Bar is available for purchase at TheEATBar.com.
