Sparkrelief Enables Community-Driven Disaster Relief to Help Alabama Tornado Victims
BOULDER, Colo., May 4, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The tornadoes devastating affects left many homeless in Alabama and surrounding states. To help, Sparkrelief, a Colorado nonprofit, deployed Alabama.Sparkrelief.org to improve the lives of Alabama tornado survivors through enabling the community to provide goods, services, and housing at Sparkrelief.org.
Sparkrelief.org is a simple website to help disaster survivors select the relief housing that meets their needs. Survivors search housing by number of people and pets, geographic location, amenities, and even transportation options.
"The impact extends far beyond simply providing temporary shelter. Often, when a family or individual is given a place to stay, many other problems are solved as well, such as access to water, food, and clothing. When you have been ripped from your community, a warm home can dramatically change your experience and memory of recovering from the disaster."
"Community offerings reduce the strain on relief organizations and government. Sparkrelief welcomes nonprofit relief organizations and government agencies to leverage Sparkrelief.org in their relief efforts." - Sparkrelief Founder, Eli Hayes.
Since the beginning of this year, Sparkrelief deployed several times to help survivors of the Japan Earthquake and Texas Fires. Sparkrelief's goal is to reduce the stress of finding information to decide how to respond, how to get help, and how to give help.
