SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 5, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- SparkPost, the cloud email delivery service preferred by leading internet, MarTech, and e-commerce companies, today announced that SparkPost Cloud customers delivered a record number of emails over the seven day period including Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Additionally, the company noted that the majority of all marketing emails sent over the period were delivered by either the SparkPost cloud service or by MarTech providers utilizing the company's on-premises email servers.
SparkPost is an API-driven email service designed to be highly reliable and to deliver messages without queuing—ensuring emails arrive in users' inboxes on time. This is critical to SparkPost retail customers such as Ebates, Vente Exclusive, and Gilt Group, along with retail-focused MarTech providers such as Ometria and Cordial.
On Cyber Monday, SparkPost Cloud customers sent a record 607 million email messages, a 106% increase over Cyber Monday message volume in 2016. On Black Friday, over 530 million emails were delivered, an increase of 76% over last year's volume. Interestingly, the company also saw a significant spike in messages on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving Day, with a similar number of messages delivered. In aggregate, SparkPost Cloud customers sent over 3.6 billion messages over the seven day period up to and including Cyber Monday, an increase of 90% over the same period in 2016.
Furthermore, a majority of all marketing emails sent during the Black Friday and Cyber Monday period were delivered via SparkPost servers, either on-premises or via the SparkPost Cloud service. This is because 18 of the top 20 email service providers and marketing automation vendors rely on SparkPost to power email delivery for their customers.
"When businesses send a record amount of emails for Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday, deliverability is not only key—it's critical—during this time period, as well as the rest of the year," said Holger Mueller, principal analyst and VP at Constellation Research. "Customer engagement ensures overall business success for many companies and reliable email delivery is an essential component of customer engagement, requiring that organizations look to an email delivery provider that can scale to meet their needs—particularly during the busiest times of the year."
