SAN FRANCISCO, April 12, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- SparkPost, the most performant cloud email delivery service available, today announced that an independent auditor has awarded the company the Service Organization Control (SOC) 2 Type I certification. This certification confirms that the SparkPost email delivery platform meets strict information security and privacy standards established by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
The review period for the certification was from December 5-8, 2016 and was conducted by CoalFire.
The AICPA designed the SOC report to provide potential and existing customers of service providers like SparkPost confirmation that their internal controls are appropriately designed and operating effectively to reduce the risk of a significant error, omission or data loss by the service organization.
The AICPA provides five different Trust Service principles that a service organization may opt to be evaluated against as part of a SOC 2 examination. SparkPost selected to be evaluated against the security principles in order to demonstrate its industry-leading cloud email delivery technology is measured against availability and security.
The SOC 2 Type I certification is evidence that SparkPost has the appropriate security controls in place. Later this year, SparkPost will undergo another audit to earn the SOC 2 Type 2 certification that confirms the company is enforcing those controls effectively.
"We're committed to continuing to improve our security posture, and this is a critically important step to providing our customers with the reassurance they need," said Steven Murray, chief information security officer (CISO) at SparkPost. "There is no legal requirement or industry mandate that requires service organizations undergo a SOC audit, but we elected to do so in order to achieve third party validation that our cloud service is secure enough to host our customers' data."
