SparkFun Electronics to Travel to San Mateo Maker Faire
Company to Conduct Soldering Workshops and Unveil its New LilyPad E-Textile System to DIY Artists, Crafters and Tinkerers
BOULDER, Colo., May 16, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- SparkFun Electronics (www.sparkfun.com), a provider of parts, knowledge and passion for electronics creation, will travel to Maker Faire in San Mateo, Calif. May 21-22 to showcase its latest and greatest wares and gadgets, and connect with more than 100,000 DIY enthusiasts attending the event. Hosted by Make Magazine, the event attracts artists, engineers and crafters from all over the world who want to share their projects. SparkFun is an official sponsor of the event.
SparkFun will run its ever-popular "soldering workshops," teaching people soldering techniques and skills as well as conduct a new workshop, centered around its new LilyPad E-Textile system. The LilyPad E-Textile system allows DIY enthusiasts to learn fundamental circuit creation and how to get the most out of their battery. Using LilyPad technology, participants will learn how to add LEDs to a fabric swatch (or their own piece of clothing). As in year's past, SparkFun is asking for donations to participate in the workshop that will benefit the San Francisco Food Bank as well as Internet Archive/Way Back Machine.
In 2010, SparkFun was one of approximately 600 exhibits drawing crowds of nearly 100,000 people to the San Mateo Fair Grounds. This year's event is expected to grow even larger, with other sponsors, including Google, Chevrolet and General Electric, participating in the event.
"Maker Faire is a fantastic time for us to meet with our customers and like-minded innovators," said SparkFun Director of Marketing AnnDrea Boe. "It's a great opportunity to see what people are creating with our products and helps us connect with the DIY community."
This is SparkFun's third trip to San Mateo and the company also has participated in Maker Faire events in New York City, Austin, TX, and Aspen, CO.
