SparkFun Electronics Heads to the Big Apple
Company Making Trip to New York City for World Maker Faire
BOULDER, Colo., Sept. 13, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- On September 17 and 18, 2011, SparkFun Electronics (www.sparkfun.com), a provider of parts, knowledge and passion for electronics creation, will travel to New York City for the World Maker Faire. Maker Faire is the premier event for grassroots innovation and is the world's largest DIY festival.
This will be SparkFun's second trip to New York and the company looks forward to the opportunity to meet with customers, hold workshops and check out projects from the DIY community. As in years past, the SparkFun booth will play host to embedded electronics workshops where attendees can learn all about circuits, electronic components, and soldering. The workshops are designed with the beginner in mind and serve as a great introduction to the wonderful world of do-it-yourself electronics.
SparkFun asks for donations to attend the soldering workshops, which SparkFun in turn donates to two local charities – The Cornell University Chapter of Expand Your Horizons (http://www.expandingyourhorizons.org/) and The Food Bank of New York (http://foodbanknyc.org/). At the 2010 New York Maker Faire, SparkFun raised over $4,500 for charity for Expand Your Horizons and the Make-a-Wish Foundation. This year, SparkFun hopes to meet or beat this total.
SparkFun has attended other Maker Faires in San Mateo, CA, Aspen, CO and Austin, TX. The event attracts artists, engineers, scientists and craftsmen from all over the world who gather to share, innovate and create. The World Maker Faire hopes to attract around 100,000 attendees and SparkFun's goal is to have 1,000 people attend soldering workshops.
"Maker Faire is something that we look forward to all year," said SparkFun Director of Marketing AnnDrea Boe. "It is the ultimate opportunity to network with other like-minded DIY enthusiasts and share what we've been working on. The workshops allow us to pass along some applicable tech skills to people who may be curious about the field, but haven't previously had the opportunity for guided hands-on experience."
World Maker Faire will take place on September 17 and 18, 2011 at the New York Hall of Science. Learn more about the New York Maker Faire at (www.makerfaire.com/newyork/2011) and SparkFun's presence at (www.sparkfun.com/news/680).
