SUNNYVALE, Calif., Nov. 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- This was an exciting week for Spansion, with news the company was awarded not one, not two, but three embedded honors from EDN and Electronic Design. Each year, EDN and Electronic Design release the Hot 100 Products and the Best of 2014 lists, respectively, representing innovative solutions and products driving the analog, communications, digital, embedded hardware, power and software markets.
Spansion's HyperBus™ Interface took home the 2014 Best Electronic Design award in the Embedded Hardware category. This breakthrough technology dramatically improves read performance while reducing the number of pins. Already implemented broadly by leading SoC manufacturers, the efficient 12-pin Spansion HyperBus Interface consists of an 8-pin address/data bus, a differential clock (2 signals), one Chip Select and a Read Data Strobe for the controller, reducing the overall cost of the system. Electronic Design's Bill Wong dives even deeper into the details in this article.
Both Spansion's HyperFlash™ NOR Memory and the company's family of power management integrated circuits (PMICs) for energy harvesting made EDN's Hot 100 Products list, furthering our commitment to bring breakthrough, efficient and environmentally conscious products to the market.
Introduced in February 2014, Spansion's HyperFlash Memory products are high-speed CMOS, MirrorBit® NOR Flash devices implementing the Spansion HyperBus interface to achieve the industry's highest read throughput of up to 333 megabytes per second. Notably, this is more than five times faster than ordinary Quad SPI flash currently available, with one-third the pin-count of parallel flash. Check out EDN's initial coverage of the launch for even more background.
Spansion's Energy Harvesting family was also recognized and includes the MB39C811, an ultra-low-power buck PMIC with dual input that enables efficient harvesting from both solar and vibration energy, in addition to the MB39C831, an ultra-low-voltage boost PMIC for solar or thermal. Spansion's technology makes use of natural resources as opposed to batteries which can be expensive, difficult to replace, unreliable and a choking hazard to children.
It's truly an honor to be recognized by both of these publications alongside several other leaders in the industry. I am extremely proud of the Spansion team. As we enter 2015, we look forward to continued development of faster, more intelligent and energy efficient electronics.
