Spangenberg Shibley & Liber LLP is pleased to announce the winners of its 2016 Spangenberg Law Firm Video PSA College Scholarship Contest
CLEVELAND, June 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The 2016 Spangenberg Law Firm Video PSA College Scholarship Contest invited students who will be in college next year and who share the firm's passion about important societal issues to create an original Public Service Announcement video on one of four important topics:
- What can students do to help prevent bullying?
- Elections: Why is voting important?
- How can we help young people make healthier food choices at home and in school?
- Distracted driving: What can young people do to help end this epidemic?
The First Prize winner - chosen by a law firm selection committee on the basis of originality, creativity, strength of message and ability to inspire viewers - is Ms. Olivia Kotlarz, whose impactful video PSA on the subject of Bullying was chosen from among the more than 100 entries submitted by students from 27 states. Peter H. Weinberger, Managing Partner, commended the winning entry: "We were inspired by the originality and commitment to important social issues demonstrated by the more than 100 contest participants. We were especially impressed by Olivia's entry, which we feel has the power to move its audience and it offered clear ideas for how to prevent bullying." Ms. Kotlarz, who just completed her senior year at Strongsville High School in Strongsville, Ohio, will be a freshman this fall at Xavier University in Cincinnati. As the First Prize winner, Ms. Kotlarz is the recipient of a $2,000 college scholarship.
Of the 100+ submissions, the entries of thirty finalists - representing 13 states and 28 different colleges and universities – were selected to be posted online for a public voting selection process, during which more than 8,900 votes were cast.
Spangenberg Shibley & Liber LLP is pleased to announce that Andrew Szilassy of Edmonds, WA, a senior at Edmonds-Woodway High School who will be enrolling this fall at Washington State University, was selected the Second Prize winner and will receive a $1,000 college scholarship. The $500 Third Prize goes to Ryan Chavez, a senior at Casa Grande High School in Petaluma, CA, who will be enrolling at the University of Southern California in the fall.
