BOCA RATON, Fla., April 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Boca Grove, a premier golf and tennis club in Boca Raton, Florida, hosted the Italia Cup (M35 teams) for the 2014 ITF Seniors World Championships. The team tournament took place at Boca Grove's tennis facility from Monday, April 21 through Saturday, April 26. The championship match came down to Spain (no. 1 seed) and France (no. 2 seed). After a grueling day of tennis and three full matches with a tie breaker in the third and final set, Spain was victorious over France and became the 2014 champions. Second place was awarded to France and third place to Great Britain. The other countries that competed at Boca Grove throughout the week include: Argentina, Australia, Canada, Costa Rica, Croatia, Germany, Haiti, India, Ireland, Latvia, Mexico, Mongolia, New Zealand, Portugal, Russia, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, USA and Venezuela. The ITF Seniors World Championships includes individual and team championship divisions for men and women. The Team Championships took place April 21 through April 26. The Individual Championships are taking place April 28 through May 4.
The other facilities hosting the event are BallenIsles Country Club, serving as the host site in North County, Jonathan's Landing, Mirasol Country Club, PGA National Resort, Palm Beach Gardens Tennis Center, Polo Club of Boca Raton, serving as host site in South County, Boca West Country Club and Woodfield Country Club. This is only the third time this event has been hosted in the United States in the past 15 years; the other American cities to host the ITF Seniors World Championships were San Diego in 2012 and Fort Lauderdale in 2002.
