SAN CLEMENTE, Calif., Feb. 10, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Sovereign Health, a national behavioral health system, announces a new television interview about the mental health needs for U.S. military members and veterans. The interview, featuring Sovereign Health's Associate Program Director, Ashley Jordan, was first broadcast live on the NBC affiliate KMIR's program "Desert Living" on Wednesday, Jan. 25.
"The transitions we're facing in our military in regards to a new administration and changes in policies can be very stressful to military members. And, there's been a lot of conflict in our nation's military in regards to deployments and having to go to several conflicts," says Ms. Jordan. "But more so, there's an acute stress disorder and generalized anxiety disorder, which is not discussed as much. It's very significant, and several veterans are dealing with a lot of stress."
Ms. Jordan continues, "There's a real concern. No warrior [military member] wants to be looked down upon as not capable of doing something because they're stressed out. There's a certain amount of stigma there, and I think the goal right now is for us, as mental health professionals, to be able to cut through that stigma and educate."
When asked how Sovereign Health can help, Ms. Jordan replied, "We have a very experienced team, which includes veterans, and they're able to speak the language. We also have other experts who can help with dual diagnosis, mental health needs, coping and re-acclimating veterans from being in the military to transitioning back to being home." She continued to state, "There needs to be an open line of communication. Military members need to know that no one is here to judge them. They can get help. In fact, it says a lot about a veteran if he/she is able to admit to getting help. Call a battle buddy or any mental health facility that can offer you some assistance. There's always help available."
Sovereign Health operates nine treatment facilities in five states: California, Arizona, Florida, Texas and Utah. The facilities are licensed and have been awarded Gold Seal accreditation by The Joint Commission, the highest level of accreditation available in the behavioral health field. "Desert Living" is a 30-minute TV program broadcast from Palm Springs in the desert's Coachella Valley.
