June 8 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. PDT – "Rethinking The "War on Obesity": The Intersection of Weight Stigma and Eating Disorder" – Sovereign Health of Los Angeles – Lauren Anton, MS, RD, CPT., a registered dietitian nutritionist and certified personal trainer will describe the obesity crisis, dieting, weight stigma and its impact on clients, various eating disorders and the physical activity interventions for adolescents. This session will begin with a clinical review of the literature on weight stigma, dieting, and eating disorders, followed by a case study that illustrates concrete solutions that honor the lived experience of the client and allow for lasting recovery. June 21 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. PDT – "Effects of Active Alcoholism and Abstinence on the Neural Networks in the Brain" – Sovereign Health Webinar – John M. Copenhaver, M.D., a physician in recovery for addiction and alcoholism will describe the effect of alcoholism and abstinence on neural networks. He will further guide on the suggestive treatment implications for maintaining these neural network changes. This lecture identifies those neural networks, explains the effect of abstinence on tone and plasticity of those networks, and suggests treatment implications on maintenance of such neural networks for long-term abstinence.
