Southern California University Featured On The Coveted 2014 Military Friendly Schools List By Victory Media
SCU Recognized For Embracing America's Service Members, Veterans, And Their Spouses And Providing A Supportive Environment For Academic And Career Success In Post Graduate Integrated Healthcare
WHITTIER, Calif., Sept. 13, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCU), the nation's leading post-graduate college for chiropractic, acupuncture and oriental medicine, has been added to the coveted Military Friendly Schools® list by Victory Media, the premier media entity for military personnel transitioning into civilian life. The 2014 Military Friendly Schools® list honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace military service members, veterans, and spouses as students and also ensure their success on campus.
"Inclusion on the 2014 list of Military Friendly Schools shows SCU's commitment to providing a supportive environment for military students," says Sean Collins, Vice President at Victory Media and a nine-year Navy veteran. "The need for education is growing and our mission is to provide the military community with transparent, world-class resources to assist in their search for schools."
The Military Friendly Schools® media and website, at www.militaryfriendlyschools.com, features the list, interactive tools, and search functionality to help military students find the best school to suit their unique needs and preferences. The 1,868 colleges, universities and trade schools on this year's list exhibit leading practices in the recruitment and retention of students with military experience. These schools have world-class programs for student support, academic accreditation, credit policies, flexibility and other services to those who served. Complete survey methodology is available at militaryfriendlyschools.com/Article/methodology-press-kit.
"Military students are encouraged to join SCU at the upcoming Military Friendly School's Virtual College Fair in November," says SCU President Dr. John Scaringe. "The Virtual College Fair will provide an unprecedented opportunity for service members, spouses and veterans to engage with our institution and is especially efficient for introducing service members deployed overseas or those still in uniform to our education programs. I'm also proud to announce that, along with our on-campus military friendly preview day in November, we will also host a special ceremony with the local veterans association and community leaders to honor the WWII and Korean War veterans in our area."
Free registration is required for all attendees at www.militaryfriendly.com/events.
SCU is committed to supporting students that are veterans in service to their country. The university is involved with several government-sponsored programs to repay veterans for their service and to help ensure their opportunity to receive a valuable education in a variety of disciplines of integrated healthcare. SCU supports student veterans through its participation in several successful programs sponsored by the Department of Veterans Affairs such as the GI Bill, Post 9/11 GI Bill, and the Yellow Ribbon Program. Through its voluntary Yellow Ribbon Program participation, SCU also provides 7 veteran students with a debt-free education each academic year. SCU also covers 100% of the excess cost of any eligible student's education not covered outright by the GI Bill and/or Yellow Ribbon Program.
Now in its fifth year, the list of Military Friendly Schools was compiled through extensive research and a data-driven survey of more than 10,000 schools nationwide approved for VA tuition funding. The survey results that comprise the 2014 list were independently tested by Ernst & Young LLP based upon the weightings and methodology established by Victory Media. Each year schools taking the survey are held to a higher standard than the previous year via improved methodology, criteria and weightings developed with the assistance of an Academic Advisory Board (AAB) consisting of educators from schools across the country. A full list of board members can be found at http://militaryfriendlyschools.com/board.
A detailed list of 2014 Military Friendly Schools® will be highlighted in the annual Guide to Military Friendly Schools® that will be distributed in print and digitally to hundreds of thousands of active and former military personnel in early October.
