South Florida Manufacturers Association And Dyplast Products Hosts Secretary Of Commerce, Wilbur Ross
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., May 1, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- On April 18, 2019, the South Florida Manufacturers Association (SFMA), along with Dyplast Products in Opa Locka, Florida, hosted U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross. Secretary Ross met with manufacturing industry leaders to discuss the important contributions of the manufacturing industry to the U.S. economy.
During his visit, Secretary Ross spoke with industry leaders about policies and recent congressional and administrative actions spurring industry growth. The discussion also focused on ways in which apprenticeships and on-the-job training can be designed to be more skill focused and provide hire-ready individuals with relevant skills needed to be employed in manufacturing. South Florida is home to approximately 5,000 manufacturing companies and workforce readiness is at the top of their priority list. During his visit Secretary Ross, Ted Berglund, President & CEO of Dyplast Products, and Matthew Rocco, President of the South Florida Manufacturers Association held a roundtable where local manufacturers were able to share their input on what needs to happen for apprenticeships and skills upgrade training in the manufacturing industry. There was also a dialogue on how to attract talent to the industry, especially with the youth in South Florida, and what resources were needed to keep Florida's manufacturing industry strong.
