As the local hardware store in a working-class neighborhood, South Academy Ace Hardware is always looking for ways to aid the community. Treankler said the store supports local schools and their football programs by allowing them to set up hot dog and soda stands outside the store to raise money. Usually, the stands are set up during "Dirt Days" when South Academy Ace Hardware sells topsoil for 50 cents a bag. The sale delivers so many customers that the football teams are able to turn a tidy profit.

South Academy Ace Hardware also works with the Children's Miracle Network. In September, the store placed blue buckets in the store for donations and posted cutouts in the front window. Another outlet for South Academy Ace Hardware to get involved is Lights for Life, which helps the fight against children's cancer by collecting donations of holiday string lights.
