Source Intelligence's "Conflict Mineral Appeals Court Debrief" Webinar Exceeds Capacity; Now Available Online
CARLSBAD, Calif., May 13, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The frenzy of regulation appeals, statements and final guidance by the SEC and Appeals Court has left companies required to comply clamoring for answers about what it all means to them. In response to requests by global brands, Source Intelligence held a webinar to debrief companies on the recent SEC and Appeals Court decisions regarding compliance with section 1502 of the Dodd Frank Act. Demand for the webinar was unprecedented. To address the oversubscribed event, Source Intelligence has created a Video-On-Demand version of the event.
"We knew this was a hot topic within the conflict minerals community, but did not anticipate this magnitude of requests to join the webinar," said Dr. Jennifer Kraus, Chief Scientific Officer. "It's a complex regulation to begin with, and the recent news coverage on statements and announcements only confused companies on what was required of them to comply. Our intention with the webinar was to provide clarification in partnership with legal and audit experts."
The webinar covered the impact that recent Court of Appeals and SEC decisions have had on conflict minerals compliance obligations. Ultimately, the ruling by the Court was over semantics involved in labeling products as "DRC conflict free" in reports filed with the SEC. It has no impact on issuers' obligation to conduct due diligence, RCOI, or file a Form SD or CMR. In a separate statement, SEC Chair, Mary Jo White upheld the SEC's position to move forward and enforce the conflict minerals rule. White's statement, in which she pointed out that the court "went out of its way" to uphold the rule, rippled certainty that the conflict minerals rule will remain in effect.
The following experts present during the webinar:
- Jennifer Kraus, Ph.D., of Source Intelligence: over 27 years of regulatory compliance expertise,
- Michael R. Littenberg, a partner at Roth & Zabel: specializing in corporate finance and ongoing securities law compliance, and
- Lawrence Heim of Elm Consulting: a leading expert in conflict minerals programs under Section 1502 of the Dodd-Frank Act, and related frameworks.
