Sound for the Hounds Amp it Up for Puppy Mill Dogs
NEW YORK, Sept. 6, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Brookdale Park in Montclair, NJ will come alive with the sound of song stylist Danny Nova and the WhiskeyHickon Boys at Sound for the Hounds' second annual puppy mill awareness event this Saturday, September 8, 2012. The day's festivities, including an appearance by Animal Planet's AnneMarie Lucas, hopes to raise awareness to the plight of the millions of puppy mill dogs confined to canine factory farms throughout the United States, or sold in pet stores or over the Internet.
Sound for the Hounds is the brainchild of longtime advocate Jacki Flanigan, a member of United Against Puppy Mills, a PA-based advocacy group. UAPM has long endeavored to cast a light on the atrocities committed against breeding dogs who often spend the entirety of their lives confined to rabbit hutches or stacked cages in unheated barn or kennels with little or no ventilation.
"These dogs receive little or no vet care, no exercise, and those who are fortunate enough to be surrendered to animal rescues are often severely traumatized from years of confinement in cages slightly larger than their own bodies," said Bill Smith of Main Line Animal Rescue. Smith will speak along with North Penn Puppy Mill Watch founder Jenny Stephens and HBO's Madonna of the Mills' Laura Flynn-Amato at Saturday's event.
Bob Baker of Missouri Alliance for Animals Legislation will also attend and as the foremost expert on puppy mills in United States, Baker will discuss the state of puppy mills in the state of Missouri. The event is free to the public. For more information visit www.soundforthehounds.com
