WASHINGTON, Sept. 2 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- SOS Children's Villages, a global organization dedicated to providing family-based care for children without parental care and social services for families at risk, is wishing SOS Supporter Kim Clijsters the best of luck in the US Open tennis tournament. Clijsters expressed her commitment to the organization in April of this year, after seeing first-hand how SOS helps at-risk children and families in her native Belgium.

Clijsters and her husband Brian Lynch have contributed financially to SOS Children's Village's work at Belgium's Simba House. Created in 2009 in the city of Liedekerke about 12 miles outside of Brussels, Simba House helps children and families in crisis by providing temporary care to children at risk of or facing abuse. Simba House staff also work with parents to develop their parenting skills and financial abilities to care for their children.
"Children are our future. They should grow up in a family where they can become strong," said Kim Clijsters. "Too many children do not have this chance. What SOS does for children is very impressive. Together with SOS Children's Villages, I would like to stand up for this basic right for every child: the right to a family."
Almost 17 percent of children in Belgium live in poverty. At Simba House, SOS gives refuge to children from families in crisis and helps them regain their self-confidence.
"Kim's support of SOS has been a true honor," added Heather Paul, CEO of SOS Children's VillagesUSA. "The mission of SOS Children's Villages is to provide comfort and family-based care to children worldwide – whether that is in the United States, Belgium, Chile or Haiti. To receive the support of world-renowned athletes like Kim is a privilege, and I thank her and her family for their generosity and kindness. We wish her the best of luck as she competes in the US Open."
