Sony's TV Intimacy Poll Shows That Size Matters in the Living Room Too
Survey reveals more than half of U.S. adults spend more than three hours a day with their TVs
SAN DIEGO, Nov. 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony Electronics today announced the results of its first-ever TV Intimacy Poll. Conducted online in November 2011 by Harris Interactive among more than 2,000 U.S. adults, the survey shows that 62 percent of Americans spend three hours or more per day with their TVs, but many are ready to break up because they are unsatisfied, citing their TV's size as the top factor.
The holiday season is often a time of reflection and renewal. In online dating circles the "turkey drop" refers to the practice of ending a relationship rather than bringing an embarrassing significant other to meet the family. The poll shows that more than half of Americans (53 percent) would 'break up' with their current TV for one with features that better suit their needs. If doing so, why not shack up with a perfect soul mate to join in a more lasting, fulfilling relationship?
In addition to the nearly one-third (32 percent) of Americans dissatisfied by their TV's size, other current television turn-offs include old age, with 31 percent of consumers saying they're embarrassed by their outdated TV set. Another 26 percent feel their needs aren't satisfied and that there are TVs out there that are a better fit for them. With holiday parties on the horizon, hosts and guests everywhere are likely searching holiday deals to save another year of embarrassment.
"In the same way friends and family would encourage a loved one to leave an unfulfilling relationship, we at Sony want to urge TV consumers to take advantage of the holiday buying season to date around," said Jennifer Sassen, vice president brand activation at Sony Electronics. "Happiness is something you can't put a value on, so it's worth it to see if there's other 'fish in the sea.' Sony Stores are a great place to test the waters and find a better fit for your lifestyle."
