CULVER CITY, Calif., Feb. 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony Movie Channel (SMC) puts the spotlight on five Oscar® winners and nominees this month, in the "Sundays in HD" block, every weekend at 7 p.m. ET. Will Smith delivers a knockout performance as Muhammad Ali in Michael Mann's ALI (March 1), with Jamie Foxx; Gary Busey brings the rock pioneer to life in the Oscar®-winning biopic THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY (March 8); Jeff Bridges helps Robin Williams search for the Holy Grail in Terry Gilliam's Oscar®-winning drama THE FISHER KING (March 15); Jack Nicholson faces the family he left behind in FIVE EASY PIECES (March 22); and fly fishing brings two brothers together in Robert Redford's Oscar®-winning adaptation A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT (March 29), starring Brad Pitt, Craig Sheffer and Tom Skerritt.
Get a double-dose of Steven Seagal, as SMC features the martial arts master and action hero in two of his hardest-hitting films, on Monday, March 2, at 10 p.m. ET. Seagal stars as a disgraced ex-cop on a quest for redemption and revenge in the 2008 crime drama PISTOL WHIPPED; and Seagal hits the streets to fight the gang members who killed his son in URBAN JUSTICE, with Danny Trejo and Eddie Griffin.
Then, the King of All Monsters stomps into SMC for a special Godzilla two-pack featuring back-to-back network premieres on Monday, March 23, at 10 p.m. ET. When alien invaders take control of Monster Island's captive beasts, the mighty lizard must team up with old foes to take down King Ghidorah in GODZILLA: DESTROY ALL MONSTERS. And the fate of the Earth rests in the claws of Godzilla and the size-shifting robot Jet Jaguar, when a sea-dwelling behemoth attacks in GODZILLA VS. MEGALON.
SMC pays tribute to beloved leading man James Garner in two of his finest roles, as part of the Take Two Tuesdays block on March 17, at 8:10 p.m. ET. First, Garner stars as legendary lawman Wyatt Earp, teaming up with Bruce Willis as Tom Mix, to solve a murder at the Academy Awards® in the 1988 crime comedy SUNSET. And Garner's small town pharmacist woos horse rancher Sally Field in the May-December comedy MURPHY'S ROMANCE, with Corey Haim.
SMC presents a month of classic Hollywood favorites in The Recline, every Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET. Shady characters search for gold in LIGHT THE FUSE… SARTANA IS COMING, and a wounded gunman wants revenge in BANDIDOS (March 4); Gregory Peck and Anthony Quinn go behind enemy lines in THE GUNS OF NAVARONE, and George Segal stars in KING RAT (March 11); James Stewart takes on a cattle baron in THE MAN FROM LARAMIE, and Randolph Scott is wrongly accused in GUNFIGHTERS (March 18); a naval ship battles a Japanese fleet in the WWII drama BATTLE STATIONS, and Sidney Poitier leads the charge in ALL THE YOUNG MEN (March 25).
And start the weekend with Friday Features, as the network showcases popular hits, every week at 8 p.m. ET. The month includes iconic funnyman Bill Murray in the comedy TOOTSIE, with Dustin Hoffman and Jessica Lange, and the deja vu farce GROUNDHOG DAY, with Andie MacDowell (March 6); Al Pacino in the mob drama DONNIE BRASCO, with Johnny Depp, and the legal thriller AND JUSTICE FOR ALL (March 13); Roy Scheider in BLUE THUNDER and Robert Patrick in S.W.A.T.: FIREFIGHT (March 20); and a pair of Civil War Westerns starring Charlton Heston and Richard Harris in MAJOR DUNDEE, and Pierce Brosnan and Liam Neeson in SERAPHIM FALLS (March 27).
