SonicWALL Firmware and NSA Firewall Platforms Certified for IPv6
Compliance with Next-Generation Standards Secures Networking Investments and Meets Requirements for Federal Purchases
SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- SonicWALL, Inc., the leading provider of intelligent network security and data protection solutions, today announced that SonicOS 5.5.1, for its Network Security Appliance (NSA) firewall platform, has been certified as Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) Ready by the IPv6 Forum. With the accreditation, SonicWALL has successfully completed Phase One and Phase Two of testing and provides comprehensive interoperability with other certified IPv6 appliances. Specific SonicWALL platforms that are now IPv6 Ready are the E7500, E6500, E5500, NSA 5000, NSA 4500, NSA 3500, NSA 2400 and NSA 240. Coupled with the recent Common Criteria EAL4+ certification, the IPv6 certification underscores SonicWALL's continued commitment to develop world-class products that meet the current and future security needs of enterprises and governmental agencies. With SonicWALL's IPv6 Ready platforms, users benefit from fully configurable access rules, advanced threat detection and prevention enabled by SonicWALL's pioneering Reassembly-Free Deep Packet Inspection (RFDPI) engine and enhanced denial of service (DOS) prevention.
"With the explosive growth of the Internet, IPv4 is expected to be exhausted within only 18 months. SonicWALL is ahead of the curve. Our hardware firewall appliances are IPv6 Ready today to provide the networking infrastructure technologies that our enterprise and government customers can rely on for years to come," said Patrick Sweeney, vice president of product management, SonicWALL. "Building upon the recent news that our NSA product line achieved the Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level 4+ certification, today's IPv6 certification announcement reinforces our commitment to meet stringent international standards."
IPv6 Forum is a leading independent IPv6 certification body. Its IPv6 Ready Logo Program is a conformance and interoperability testing program designed to increase user confidence and demonstrate that IPv6 is available and ready for deployments today. Testing takes place over two phases during which protocol implementation is verified and interoperability with other IPv6 products is validated. Phase One of this testing process is designed to verify minimum support for a core number of IPv6 protocols, while Phase Two is more extensive and includes up to 450 different tests.
Continues Sweeney: "We're looking forward to the new standard, that will provide protection from a variety of attacks including 'SYN Flood,' 'Smurf amplification,' 'Ping of Death' and 'Multicast spank.' But most importantly, when our customers are moving to IPv6, they don't have to buy new hardware - all they will need is a simple firmware update. In addition, SonicWALL offers IPv4-to-IPv6 translation for a smoother adoption of the new standard. In short: we give our customers peace of mind, because they make future-proof investments in leading-edge technology."
