Sonic Continues Prioritizing Protection of Customer Rights and Privacy
Company Signs On to NSA Coalition Letter
SANTA ROSA, Calif., March 25, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Bay Area-based independent ISP, Sonic, has been viewed as a leader in consumer privacy and customer rights since the company's start in 1994. Today, Sonic joins 43 other advocates, companies and organizations in urging the White House and Congress to move forward with reform around the National Security Agency's methods for bulk collection of data. The NSA Coalition Letter calls for termination of these practices under the USA PATRIOT Act, a revised bill containing transparency and accountability mechanisms for company reporting as well as declassification for Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court decisions.
Sonic CEO and Co-Founder, Dane Jasper says, "Protection of customer privacy is one of our core values at Sonic. We seek to provide as much transparency as possible regarding legal processes and customer privacy. Internet and telephone service providers have a great responsibility both to protect their law-abiding customers and the public. We continually work to achieve both of these goals."
Sonic is the only ISP in the United States to earn the highest possible rating of six stars in the Electronic Frontier Foundation's (EFF) "Who Has Your Back?" report for protecting consumer data from government requests. Sonic continues to uphold the belief that bulk data collection is an infringement on the constitutional protection of human rights.
