Sonic and Prodea Ignite On-Demand for Service Providers Worldwide
RoxioNow Powers Video-On-Demand for Prodea Systems' Home Service Platform
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 4, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- CES 2011 -- Sonic Solutions® (Nasdaq: SNIC) today announced that its RoxioNow™ platform is providing video-on-demand services for ROS™, the intelligent digital home hub from Prodea Systems. The ground-breaking ROS solution will enable millions of households to enjoy a range of broadband-enabled services including video conferencing, home monitoring, eHealth, and social networking. With the inclusion of RoxioNow, ROS will also support convenient, on-demand access to the latest hit movies and TV series. Based on recent agreements with major telecommunications service providers, ROS with RoxioNow is beginning to provide on-demand services to an expanding subscriber base in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) as well as Eastern Europe, with additional markets to follow in 2011.
"Video-on-demand is a core capability for our customers, all of whom strive to leverage the existing broadband infrastructure to provide a compelling service mix to their subscribers," said Andrew Tauhert, Vice President, Marketing and Business Development. "Through our relationship with Sonic, we are establishing new and viable content distribution channels in broader international markets, while not only providing consumers with convenient and compelling entertainment options, but also a wide range of other value-added services."
Prodea's ROS platform is a managed service offering that enables providers in markets such as telecom, satellite, cable, and wireless to offer a broad variety of new and exciting services to their subscribers. The product has already been licensed by a number of service providers in order to add new applications and value-added services across a variety of home and mobile devices including TVs, PCs, and smart mobile devices.
"We're extremely impressed with the innovative approach Prodea has taken in creating a platform that adds value for subscribers and creates opportunity for providers," said Dave Habiger, President and CEO, Sonic Solutions. "Partnering with Prodea to expand to MENA and Europe raises RoxioNow's international profile by extending our platform into new regions, and it gives us the opportunity to highlight the benefits of RoxioNow to a new range of potential customers - cable and telco operators."
The RoxioNow platform serves a broad range of premium content, including new movies and next-day TV programs, to a growing, multi-manufacturer ecosystem of home and mobile electronics. RoxioNow enables storefronts for brick and mortar retailers, cable operators, PC manufacturers, game system vendors, consumer electronics makers, and Hollywood studios' direct-to-consumer initiatives. The platform allows these companies to participate in the entertainment supply chain, add value to product offerings, and form ongoing relationships with customers. "Powered by RoxioNow™" stores enable consumers to instantly rent and purchase high-quality entertainment on their favorite devices and, through the RoxioNow online entertainment library, access their content at any time, on any RoxioNow-powered device.
