Solution Tree Announces 2014 Redefining Excellence Award Winners

BLOOMINGTON, Ind., Feb. 13, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Solution Tree, one of the nation's premier educational publishing and professional development providers, has announced the three winners of the third annual Redefining Excellence Awards.

"We established these awards to recognize exceptional districts, schools, and teacher teams who have demonstrated tremendous efforts and commitment to improved student learning," said CEO Jeffrey C. Videos and written essays were submitted by districts, schools, and teacher teams from across North America.

The 2014 Redefining Excellence award winners are:

Redefining Excellence in the District Award
Stanley-Boyd School District—Stanley, Wisconsin
"We meet as a team weekly to plan lessons, build common assessments, and discuss student progress," explained the district in their winning video. "Collaborating as a team is what we do at Stanley-Boyd to ensure that students are learning at a high level, and we can't imagine doing it any other way."

Redefining Excellence in the School Award
Carter G. Woodson Elementary School of the Medical Arts—Jacksonville, Florida
"The two things that we really focused in on were inquiry-based learning and active cognitive engagement," said Principal Cheryl Quarles-Gaston. "Now we're one of the highest-performing schools in the state."

Redefining Excellence in the Classroom Award
Saint Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists (SPCPA) Math Team—St. Paul, Minnesota
"At SPCPA we're redefining excellence in the classroom by making math more fun and relevant for the lives of the kids, by placing kids where they can be successful, and by integrating technology," explained mathematics teacher Nathan Strenge.
