Sole Power Tile(TM) Awarded Gold in the 2010 Edison Best New Product Awards
- SRS Energy's Solar Powered Roofing Tile Wins Gold in the Industrial Design Category -
PHILADELPHIA, May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- SRS Energy, a leading developer of building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) products, is pleased to announce that its Sole Power Tile™ has been awarded the Gold prize in the Industrial Design category of the 2010 Edison Best New Product Awards. New and innovative products in eleven categories were recognized for innovation and invention in the spirit of Thomas Alva Edison, America's greatest inventor and innovator. With this prestigious award, the Sole Power Tile, the first curved BIPV roofing product designed for clay mission-style roofing systems, joins some of the most innovative companies and products in the United States.
"Innovation is more important now than ever," said Sarah Miller Caldicott, great grandniece of Thomas Edison, and Chairperson of the Edison Awards Steering Committee. "The Edison Award winners are the moving parts in the engine of economic growth. They inspire people to think outside the box and their results improve the lives of people around the world." Among the notable winners are the Honeywell Wind Turbine from Windtronics, the Tata Nano Automobile from Tata Motors in India, and Betty Crocker's gluten-free dessert mixes from General Mills. Other gold award winners include Proctor and Gamble, General Electric, and Motorola. The Sole Power Tile was recognized for its seamless Sunbelt aesthetics and premium functionality as a solar roof tile. Also within the Industrial Design category, Motorola was awarded the Silver prize for its APX™ 7000 First Responder Radio, and Delta was awarded the Bronze prize for its Pilar® Kitchen Faucet with Touch20. In 2009, Apple was awarded the Gold prize in the Industrial Design category for its MacBook Air.
The Edison Awards, a peer-review honor similar to the Oscars (one newspaper called them the "Oscars of Innovation") is voted on by roughly 2,000 members of the not-for-profit Marketing Executives Networking Group (MENG), an association of America's top executives and academics. The awards symbolize the persistence and excellence personified by Thomas Alva Edison, America's premier inventor, inspiring America's drive to remain in the forefront of innovation, creativity and ingenuity in the global economy. Judging criteria in the new products categories includes marketplace innovation, marketplace success, technological innovation, market structure innovation and societal impact.
In addition to being named a Gold winner in the 2010 Edison Best New Product Awards, the Sole Power Tile has recently received a host of national honors. In November 2009, the product received a 2009 "Best of What's New" award from Popular Science in the Home Tech category. The "Best of What's New" award is the magazine's top honor, and the 100 winners -- chosen from among thousands of entrants -- represent the highest level of achievement in their fields. Additionally, the Sole Power Tile was named a 2009 Best Product in the Thermal & Moisture Protection Category by Architectural Record magazine.
SRS Energy's Sole Power Tile system provides the financial and environmental benefits of solar power without unsightly and cumbersome panels. SRS Energy and US Tile are currently launching the Sole Power Tile system in select California markets with a nationwide rollout of the product to follow.
