Soldiers' Angels to Donate Voice-Activated Laptop Computers to Help Local Wisconsin Wounded Service Members
MADISON, Wis., Aug. 27 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Wisconsin Chapter of Soldiers' Angels and its Valour IT Program announced today the presentation of two voice-activated laptop computers to assist local service members who have been injured while serving in the United States Military. This donation is made possible by a $2,500 grant from the Gordon Flesch Charitable Foundation. Barb Anderson, president of the Gordon Flesch Charitable Foundation, will present a check to Soldiers' Angels at the start of the ceremony.
The ceremony will take place at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 28th at The Gordon Flesch Company corporate headquarters located at 2675 Research Park Drive in Fitchburg, Wisconsin. These local service members are alumni of the nonprofit organization Wounded Warrior Project.
The ceremony will also feature a presentation to the Social Workers Department of the Madison VA Hospital of gas cards for veterans who need help with fuel expenses to get to their medical appointments. These funds were raised by the Madison area angels at their recent bowling event held at Schwoegler's Park Towne Lanes in Madison.
To date, over 37,000 members of our nation's armed forces have been physically wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan. Studies estimate that more than 300,000 will suffer from the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury.
WWP provides programs and services to assist injured veterans and their families during their recovery, rehabilitation and transition. Whether through caregiver retreats, combat stress programs, career and education services, or adaptive sporting opportunities, Wounded Warrior Project's vision is to help make this generation of wounded warriors the most successful and well-adjusted in our nation's history.
Soldiers' Angels stands strong in its commitment to ensure that "No Soldier Goes Unloved." With regional teams, Soldiers' Angels tries to ensure the family of each service member is not forgotten. Founded in 2003 by Patti Patton-Bader, the nonprofit organization boasts over 200,000 volunteers world-wide. Currently there are over 1,000 soldiers nation-wide waiting to be "adopted." The Gordon Flesch Company began their charitable foundation after 9-11, when the owners decided to take the money that was usually spent on Employee Appreciation Holiday dinners and send the monies to the first responders in New York. Backed by its employees, the company decided to start the charitable foundation and make contributions to various charities, many nominated by employees. Soldiers' Angels was nominated by employee Penny Potter, Community Network Coordinator for Soldiers' Angels, central Wisconsin, and receptionist for the Gordon Flesch Company.
"We are very excited to see this to its fruition. It is inspiring when charitable organizations can work with the business sector to benefit our military men and women," explained Ms. Potter. "The Valour IT program with Soldiers' Angels is such a high impact program and can help so many wounded warriors in so many ways, be it voice-activated laptops, gps units, or the Wii Fit units for physical therapy use in the clinics. And with the technology end of The Gordon Flesch Company, this is a perfect partnership to use technology to benefit our soldiers." Gordon Flesch is also proud to be listed as an employer of choice for Wounded Warrior Project's Warriors to Work program.
"On behalf of the injured service members, we want to thank Soldiers' Angels, The Gordon Flesch Company, and the many supporters in Wisconsin for their dedication to our nation's heroes. Their commitment is helping ensure the tremendous personal sacrifices service men and women make for our country are not forgotten," said Wounded Warrior Project Executive Director Steven Nardizzi.
