SoftBank Telecom Selects Ericom Blaze RDP Acceleration Solution to Enable Remote Access to its White Cloud Desktop Service
Plan to expand to 20,000 users within the SoftBank Group
CLOSTER, N.J., Oct. 2, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Ericom Software, a global leader in application access and desktop virtualization solutions, today announced that SoftBank Telecom of Japan has chosen Ericom Blaze to provide customers and employees with accelerated remote access to its White Cloud Desktop Service – a hosted desktop service that allows users to access their desktops anywhere, anytime from various devices such as laptops, PCs, iPhones, and iPads. SoftBank Telecom is able to create a virtual PC environment by using a proprietary virtualization mechanism along with the industry standard communication protocol, RDP. SoftBank Telecom offers the White Cloud Desktop Service to its corporate customers, in addition to using it internally.
SoftBank Telecom users had faced some major performance and mobile device usability challenges when accessing the hosted desktop service remotely. Ericom's partner in Japan, Ashisuto, recommended that SoftBank Telecom trial Ericom Blaze, a software-based RDP acceleration and compression solution. Integrating Ericom Blaze with the White Cloud Desktop Service dramatically improved performance and usability, allowing SoftBank Telecom to consider a major deployment to various SoftBank group companies.
SoftBank Telecom intends to enhance their White Cloud Desktop Service with Ericom Blaze for their corporate customers as well as for employees of its group companies. As a first step, Ericom worked with SoftBank Telecom and Ashisuto to customize Ericom Blaze to handle a major deployment and allow large number of users within the SoftBank group companies to access the hosted desktop service without sacrificing performance and usability. SoftBank Telecom tested this customized version of Ericom Blaze with a sample group of internal users and analyzed the results. Users gave very positive feedback, with comments such as "Excellent usability" and "Easy to use even while travelling overseas."
Toshio Takeuchi, Director of the Service Promotion Office for SoftBank Telecom said: "We tested Ericom Blaze internally and found that remote users were able to access their desktop environments with the same quality as the ones using internal LAN, even while using 3G mobile networks. I also personally experienced that when using Ericom Blaze via Wi-Fi in a hotel while I was on a business trip in the US. We are confident that we will be able to improve our service and increase customer satisfaction by using Ericom Blaze with our White Cloud Desktop Service."
Eran Heyman, Ericom Software's Founder and CEO, added: "We're honored that SoftBank Telecom, a leader in its field, has selected Ericom Blaze to help improve their hosted virtual desktop service to both customers and employees. Delivering a fast, simple and easy remote access user experience, especially involving access over slow connections and graphics-heavy content, has always been a challenge to the smooth adoption of cloud technologies. We expect that Ericom Blaze will enable SoftBank Telecom to gain a wider adoption of their White Cloud Desktop Service."
SoftBank Telecom recently presented its White Cloud Desktop Service and Ericom Blaze case study in a series of "Ashisuto Forum 2013" events held in several cities in Japan.
Ericom Blaze improves RDP performance and usability when remotely accessing applications or virtual desktops over high latency, low bandwidth connections, such as on a WAN, without changing the existing RDP environment. Ericom Blaze's productivity-enhancing functionality enables hosted desktop users to overcome RDP display issues such as sluggish response times, slow screen updates and unresponsiveness.
