CHARLOTTE, N.C., Feb. 12, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Sodoma Law, a full-service law firm based in Charlotte, is entering its 11th year and continues an upward trajectory with support from its colleagues, community and clients. In 2018, the firm's attorneys earned several awards, contributed their expert insights on topical issues to regional and national media, and gave support to their communities via the Sodoma Law Foundation. Founded by Managing Principal Nicole Sodoma in 2008 as a family law firm, in 2018 Sodoma Law continued its "whole life" approach to meeting its clients' needs and in supporting the law community in Charlotte and beyond. In 2018, the "Sodoma Way" approach included adding mediation and litigation consulting capabilities while growing the firm's business, estate planning, bankruptcy and employment law practice areas as well.
To accommodate its growth, near the close of 2018, the firm announced its planned restoration in 2019 of 217 Graham St, a landmark building left untouched for close to 70 years. This is the third property restored by Sodoma Law in partnership with Doma Vida Capital, following the Walter Brem House in 2013 and the G.G. Galloway House in 2014.
"As we enter 2019, on the heels of an extraordinary year, I am delighted to announce that Sodoma Law family law attorney, Board Certified Specialist in Family Law (NC) and certified Family and Divorce Mediator (NC and SC) Patra Sinner has been named a Principal," said Nicole Sodoma, Managing Principal, Sodoma Law. "Patra's leadership along with her contributions to the overall success and strategic plan of the firm has been outstanding. Her efforts have positively impacted not only operations and culture but also the professional and personal development of the firm's staff and attorneys. I am honored to practice alongside her and look forward to continuing our exciting journey together."
In 2018, six of the firm's attorneys were recognized with awards including Icons & Phenoms (Mecklenburg Times), Leaders in the Law (North Carolina Lawyers Weekly), multiple awards from Super Lawyers, Legal Elite (Business North Carolina), and for the first time, Best Lawyers in America. Recognition by Best Lawyers is based entirely on peer review, designed to capture the consensus opinion of leading lawyers about the professional abilities of their colleagues within the same geographical area and legal practice area.
Sodoma Law provided insights to media on a multitude of timely themes over the last year. Topics such as sexual harassment in the #MeToo era featured in INC, financial implications of the Harvey Weinstein scandal on Associated Press and The Washington Post and why prenups aren't just for the rich and famous on Business Insider were highlighted at the national level. Closer to home, Carolina Parent sought Sodoma Law's insight on explaining the new tax code to families, local news channel Fox 46 discussed Domestic Violence and WBTV explored how to talk to your kids about divorce.
Since its inception in 2014, the Sodoma Law Foundation, the charitable arm of Sodoma Law, has steadily increased its role in providing support to businesses and nonprofits in the region and throughout the state. As in years past, in 2018 the Foundation continued to contribute leadership, talent, assets and monetary donations to over 21 organizations and events across North Carolina and South Carolina, with a particular focus on those that support the well-being of children and families – the keystone of the firm's core values.
In 2019, the Sodoma Law Foundation and the team at Sodoma Law will continue to be involved with North Carolina and South Carolina-based causes, including Safe Alliance and the Charlotte Rescue Mission.
