Sodexo Recognized for Third Consecutive Year as a Top Military Friendly Employer
Company's Dedicated Programs Help Veterans Make Smooth Transition to Success in Corporate Workplace
GAITHERSBURG, Md., Nov. 10, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Sodexo was named one of the nation's top 100 Military Friendly Employers for its enterprise-wide focus on hiring, supporting and retaining military veterans and reservists, according to GI Jobs, the premier publication for post-military employment. The GI Jobs list recognizes the best corporate recruiting programs aimed at veterans. It is the third consecutive year that Sodexo has been included on the list, which is compiled from a review of about 5,000 eligible companies. To see the full list of 100 Military Friendly Employers, go to http://www.gijobs.com/2011Top100-FullList.aspx.
According to GI Jobs, nearly 400,000 new civilian workers annually retire or separate from the military, the second-largest pool of talent, behind college graduates, available to United States employers. Sodexo has dedicated resources to help these individuals transition from military to civilian leadership.
"Sodexo values the military experience of our service member employees," said Arie Ball, vice president of talent acquisition. "We offer dedicated recruiters and training that helps veterans make a smoother transition to the civilian workplace, and positions them for further advancement." Sodexo currently employs more than 3,000 veterans, Guard members or reservists.
HONOR (Honoring Our Nation's finest with Opportunity and Respect), the company's military employee network group launched last year, now has 395 members, and has established three new regional chapters. The mission of the Military Network Group is to provide support, guidance and resources to employees and families connected to the military by offering development opportunities; provide a forum to recognize and celebrate contributions made by service members and their families to our country; and establish partnerships with community groups that support veterans, active duty, National Guard and military reserve.
Criteria for the GI Jobs Top 100 rankings include: assets dedicated to military hiring; an employer's Reserve/Guard policies; the percentage of new hires that are veterans; and veteran training programs.
Sodexo supports its veteran employees with:
- A Military Sourcing and Strategy Team within Sodexo's Talent Acquisition Group that recruits former military personnel for all divisions and disciplines;
- Training for recruiters to help veterans translate their military experience into strong leadership qualities for civilian employment;
- A career-oriented Web site - www.SodexoHiresHeroes.com – just for veterans; and
- Participation in more than 20 military-focused career fairs across the US.
The company also uses social media for recruiting. Job candidates can follow SodexoCareers on Twitter; join Facebook or LinkedIn groups, or share comments at www.sodexocareersblog.com.
Sodexo has been awarded the Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, the highest federal-level employer recognition for exceptional support of our nation's defense, and the Pro Patria Award from the Maryland Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, the highest state-level award from the Department of Defense to a civilian employer.
