SOCMA to Present President's Leadership Award for Advocacy, Service at 2015 Annual Dinner
WASHINGTON, Nov. 17, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Society of Chemical Manufacturers and Affiliates (SOCMA) will honor Kate Donahue, President of Hampford Research, Inc., and Jerry L. Jones, a process safety consultant and AIChE course instructor, with the SOCMA President's Leadership Award for their exceptional contributions to the specialty chemical industry through advocacy and service at the association's 94th Annual Dinner on December 7 in New York.
Donahue is receiving the President's Leadership Award for Excellence in Advocacy because of her significant involvement in SOCMA's Government Relations activities. From testimony on Capitol Hill to participating in roundtable discussions at national meetings to high-level meetings with regulatory officials, she has represented SOCMA and its members on key issues impacting the industry.
"In 2014, at the height of the debate over whether to reauthorize the Department of Homeland Security's Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS), Kate gave passionate testimony to a House subcommittee in support of reauthorization," said SOCMA President and CEO Lawrence D. Sloan. "Within months, Congress approved a four-year reauthorization of the program, and, at her suggestion, DHS created a 'What to Expect' from a DHS CFATS inspection guidance document. Kate's involvement is an ideal example of how big a difference companies can make to this industry through their SOCMA membership."
With Jones's exemplary support for SOCMA's ChemStewards® program, it was only fitting that Sloan presented him with the award at the 2015 National Chemical Safety Symposium on October 21 in Houston, TX.
"Jerry has been instrumental in enhancing the quality of the ChemStewards national meeting and regional roundtables," Sloan said. "In 2014, he served as the process risk management instructor at all five regional events. He returned to this year's symposium to teach the pre-conference workshop, and he plans to update the process risk management chapter in SOCMA's Chemical Operator Training program. Jerry provides sound advice on enhancing the ChemStewards program credentials, and he believes in its core principles."
"We couldn't ask for more deserving individuals to honor with this year's President's Leadership Awards," Sloan said. "They selflessly give of their time to improve the value of SOCMA and represent the interests of our industry."
