ARLINGTON, Va., Oct. 4, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Society of Chemical Manufacturers & Affiliates today commends Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Scott Pruitt for launching the Smart Sectors Program, a partnership between industry and the agency that focuses on improving environmental outcomes while supporting economic growth.
SOCMA President and CEO Jennifer Abril and Government Relations Managing Director Robert F. Helminiak were among a host of trade association partners who joined EPA staff on Tuesday for the program's kick-off ceremony.
"We commend Administrator Pruitt for revitalizing a program that encourages open dialogue between industry and EPA about how regulations impact the innovative nature of our members' businesses and their ability to remain competitive," said Abril. "SOCMA is ready to support the Smart Sectors Program and represent the specialty batch chemical industry. Our association was an active participant in Sector Strategies, an earlier iteration of the program, and we look forward to sharing more about the uniqueness of our sector with EPA as we move forward."
According to EPA, the Smart Sectors Program will "re-examine how EPA engages with industry in order to reduce unnecessary regulatory burden, create certainty and predictability, and improve the ability of both EPA and industry to conduct long-term regulatory planning while also protecting the environment and public health."
