Society of Wine Educators' 2012 Conference: Top Speakers & Sessions in San Mateo
WASHINGTON, June 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Society of Wine Educators' 36th Annual Conference will take place July 25-27 in San Mateo, California, overlooking San Francisco Bay. There will be over 50 sessions, highlighting the theme, "Grapes and Grains by the Bay."
This year, more than ever, the SWE Conference educates on topics far beyond wine. The diverse topics include: sake, beer, Armagnac, Cognac, Scotch, water, mixology, curriculum development, wine and health, and politics. And there's geographical diversity as well, with pourings from old and new world sources: France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Portugal, Greece, New Zealand, Australia, California, Scotland, and Japan.
Some of the sessions are already full ("Olfactory Memory & Submodalities: Unlocking the Tasting Strategy of Genius," presented by Tim Gaiser, MS; "A Revolutionary Way of Teaching the Wines of France," presented by Sheri Sauter Morano, MW, and "The Great Red Wines of Spain," presented by Paul Wagner), but many others still have space available. These include: "Barrel Maturation of Wine: The Art & Science," presented by Stephen Ghiglieri; "Wines of the Medoc: Appellations & Classifications," presented by Guy Stout, MS, CWE; "Captivating Chile, Amazing Argentina" presented by Sharron McCarthy, CSW; "Journey through Scotland: Understanding Scotch Whisky," presented by Russ Kempton, CSS, and "Greece: Ancient Wines of the 21st Century," presented by Doug Frost, MS, MW.
Sessions will not only keep you updated on wine and spirit production, but will also offer an historical perspective, through vertical tastings. In addition to tasting unusual and rare wines and spirits, there are several social events planned, giving presenters and audience alike the chance to relax (and continue tasting) while networking. Pre-conference, there's a winery tour of the Santa Cruz Mountains Winery. Wednesday night there's a "Bubbles, Brews, Bourbon & Blues" get-together, featuring a great mix of wine, beer and spirits, with music provided by the Fil Lorenz Soul-tet. And on Thursday, the evening's entertainment will be "A Spirited Soiree," taking the art of the cocktail to new heights. Entertainment at Friday night's Gala will be provided by Blue-a-Fuse.
