Society of Professional Journalists Awards NBC Bay Area With Three National Sigma Delta Chi Awards for Exceptional Journalism
SAN JOSE, Calif., April 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Society of Professional Journalists today announced the recipients of the 2013 Sigma Delta Chi Awards, recognizing NBC Bay Area with three awards, the most any local television station has won in recent history. The station was honored for its coverage of the Asiana Airlines Flight 214 crash landing at San Francisco International Airport last July along with an expose of the local district attorney's pay practices and feature reporting as part of its Bay Area Proud franchise.

The Sigma Delta Chi Awards recognize exceptional professional journalism in categories covering print, radio, television, newsletters, art/graphics, online and research. The awards date back to 1932, when the Society of Professional Journalists honored six individuals for their contributions to journalism. The current program began in 1939 as the Distinguished Service Awards.
NBC Bay Area will be formally presented with the awards at a reception which will take place at the National Press Club on June 20, 2014 in Washington, D.C.
