NEW YORK, Dec. 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Board of Directors of the Society of Corporate Secretaries and Governance Professionals (the "Society") today announced Darla C. Stuckey has been appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of the Society, effective January 1, 2015. Ms. Stuckey is currently the Society's Executive Vice President & General Counsel. Stephen L. Brown, the Society's current President and Chief Executive Officer, will be leaving the Society at the end of this year to pursue other opportunities.
Board Chair-Elect, Dannette L. Smith said, "Darla has served our members in a number of different roles for over five years, most recently leading the Society's advocacy efforts in support of strong corporate governance and sound business practices. Our members can be confident that her leadership positions the Society well for the future, providing them with leading-edge developments in corporate governance and thoughtful consideration of the issues and challenges they face."

Ms. Stuckey joined the Society's staff in 2009 as Senior Vice President for Policy and Advocacy. Prior to joining the Society, Ms. Stuckey was the Senior Assistant Secretary at American Express Company. Previously, Ms. Stuckey was the Corporate Secretary at the New York Stock Exchange, Inc. from 2002 to 2004. Ms. Stuckey began her career at Weil, Gotshal & Manges, where she practiced in the Securities Litigation Department for ten years.
Ms. Stuckey has a B.S. from Oklahoma Christian College, an M.A. from University of Oklahoma, and a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School. Ms. Stuckey is also a past member of the Society's Board of Directors and past President of the Society's New York Chapter.
