Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care Announces Cardiac Cath Lab Accreditation and FreeStanding ED Cardiac Care Certification
CHICAGO, March 31, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- NCDR.16 – The Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care (SCPC) has announced that it will soon offer Accreditation for Cardiac Cath Labs and Certification for FreeStanding Emergency Department (ED) Cardiac Care. The availability of online tools supporting each designation is scheduled for June 1, 2016.
Wil Mick, Vice President of Accreditation Services for the American College of Cardiology, says that the introduction of Cardiac Cath Lab Accreditation is one way the College and the Society begin to fulfill the promise made by the two entities to reduce the data burden on hospitals. "The January merger of ACC and SCPC has already led to close collaboration inside the expanded organization and I'm pleased to announce that the Cardiac Cath Lab tool will be the first accreditation offered by SCPC to utilize NCDR Registry® data."
SCPC Accreditation Clinical Manager Donna Hunn stated, "The NCDR CathPCI Registry captures the data that measure adherence to ACC/AHA clinical practice guideline recommendations, procedure performance standards and appropriate use criteria for coronary revascularization. So it's the perfect pairing of an accreditation tool and a data registry that will serve hospitals intent on improved patient outcomes and sustainable quality initiative programs." Hunn also shared that the Cardiac Cath Lab Accreditation tool incorporates the ACC/SCAI Consensus Document for Catheterization Laboratory Standards and other evidence-based science with quality initiatives. "The essential components of this accreditation address clinical quality, including pre-procedure, peri-procedure and post-procedure care," she said.
Leela Beers, Co-chair of the SCPC Cath Lab Accreditation Writing Committee and a Cardiac Cath lab Director added, "Cath Lab Accreditation brings value to an institution by not only focusing on the procedure, but focusing on the entire patient experience."
Mick also commented that the organization decided to offer FreeStanding ED Cardiac Care Certification for many reasons. "Most importantly, we promised to bring the use of appropriate and guideline-driven practices to an expanded geography of emergency cardiac care. FreeStanding EDs are typically located in rural and suburban areas and are more convenient for patients who need access to emergency care closer to home. We believe that anyone experiencing acute signs and symptoms of ACS, heart failure or atrial fibrillation shouldn't receive inferior emergency treatment simply because they may live in a low density population area. We want to ensure that everything that should be done is done as rapidly as possible for a patient that might need to be transferred to a larger urban or a regional medical center. We continue to be advocates for those at the front line of emergency treatment and offering certification for the cardiac care delivered by FreeStanding EDs is one more way we fulfill our mission to transform cardiovascular care and improve heart health."
