Society for Biomolecular Sciences to Hold Biopharmaceutical Symposium in San Francisco
Symposium will Present the Latest Research in Biopharmaceutical Drug Discovery
DANBURY, Conn., March 25 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Society for Biomolecular Sciences (SBS) will present Biopharmaceuticals: Exploring Synergies Across Drug Formats at the San Francisco Hilton Union Square in San Francisco on May 20-21, 2010.
Biopharmaceuticals is one of the fastest growing sectors of the pharmaceutical industry. This two-day meeting will explore the latest synergies between small molecule and biopharmaceutical drug discovery, including assay development, screening and characterization of drug candidates.
"Most major pharmaceutical companies have announced ambitious goals for growing their biotherapeutic franchises," said Biopharmaceuticals Program Chair Dr. Sandra Turconi of Ablynx nv, Belgium. "To fuel their strong growth, biopharmaceutical companies will have to recruit talent from the more traditional small molecule field. Hence, the skills needed to bridge the 'molecular size' gap will become increasingly important," said Turconi.
The meeting will also offer attendees an opportunity to explore the exhibit hall to see the latest technologies and network with other scientists and industry experts. "This event aims to connect the small molecule and biopharmaceutical drug discovery communities at their closest junction: the design and execution of assays used for lead identification and characterization," said Turconi. "The symposium should be educational and inspirational, inducing exchange of significant relevant experiences."
This event will be co-sponsored by the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS), an individual membership society composed of pharmaceutical scientists who have joined together to serve both society and their own common professional interests.
Headquartered in Danbury, CT, the Society for Biomolecular Sciences (SBS) is the only international non-profit scientific society dedicated to drug discovery and its related disciplines. SBS was founded in 1994 to provide a forum for global education and information exchange among professionals in the chemical, pharmaceutical, biotech, and agrochemical industries. SBS members represent many of the largest and most influential research institutes, universities and pharmaceutical companies in the world, including the National Cancer Institute, University of California, Berkeley, Harvard University, government agencies and organizations, and most major companies involved in drug discovery.
