Snow Joe® Pays Tribute to Dedicated Employee and Her Family's Legacy With $16,000 Donation to Alzheimer's Foundation of America
Gift from New Jersey-based lawn and garden tools manufacturer to Alzheimer's Foundation of America will go toward research for a cure for Alzheimer's disease
CARLSTADT, N.J., March 10, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Snow Joe®, a lawn and garden tools manufacturer based in Carlstadt, NJ, donated $16,000 to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America (AFA) today to help in the fight against Alzheimer's disease. The donation will go toward funding research aimed at finding a cure and treatment for Alzheimer's disease. Snow Joe® CEO, Joseph Cohen, presented AFA President & CEO Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr., with the charitable gift in honor of a long-time, outstanding Snow Joe employee, Ms. Donna Wagner, who currently serves as the company's Vice President of Global Procurement.
"We are extremely grateful for this donation from Snow Joe®," said Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr., President and CEO of the Alzheimer's Foundation of America. "Alzheimer's disease affects more than 5 million individuals across the country, and has impacted the Snow Joe® team as well. Snow Joe's generosity will fund critically important research toward finding a treatment and cure for Alzheimer's disease and bring us another step closer to the scientific breakthrough all of us are hoping for."
To pay tribute to Ms. Wagner's 16 years of dedication to the Snow Joe® company, Mr. Cohen wanted to bestow a meaningful monetary gift to a charitable organization of her choice. The charity that was closest to her heart and to her home was the Alzheimer's Foundation of America. Ms. Wagner's late mother, Dixie Magee, and late grandmother, Lexie Breeden, had both suffered from Alzheimer's and Ms. Wagner witnessed first-hand two vibrant and lively women fall victim to this debilitating disease. Just as Mr. Cohen wanted to honor Ms. Wagner, Ms. Wagner wanted to honor the two generations of inspiring women that preceded her and were instrumental in shaping her life. Her wish was granted today at Snow Joe's company headquarters when Snow Joe® officially presented the $16,000 donation check to the AFA, the gift amount recognizing her 16 years of exemplary service to the Snow Joe® company.
"Andre Gide once said, 'Nothing prevents happiness like the memory of happiness'," commented Ms. Wagner. "I think of how sad my grandmother and then my mother were in their final years of suffering with Alzheimer's, two brilliant, independent women who became dependent on others for their basic needs as their happiness slowly and painfully disappeared. I am honored that my company has chosen to support the AFA on my behalf to fund research for a cure so those that suffer from this disease do not lose their happiness."
In addition to Ms. Wagner, Mr. Cohen has his own personal connection to Alzheimer's. "My late grandfather, Joseph Cohen, whose namesake I bear, suffered with Alzheimer's for many years before passing," he noted. "Making this donation to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America really hits home for me as it does for our devoted team member, Ms. Wagner, and I'm hopeful that this donation will help bring us closer to a cure."
