Snoopy Plate Purchasers Get Free/Discounted Museum Admission
Beagle Backer Pass 'sweetens the deal' for those who pre-order
SACRAMENTO, Calif., May 20, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Museums statewide are coming together to encourage Californians to put Snoopy on California license plates, and help support museums at the same time. The plate features a reproduction of the beloved beagle by Peanuts cartoonist Charles Schulz and the phrase "museums are for everyone." The first 7,500 purchasers of this official California license plate, playfully named "Beagle Backers," will receive discounted or free admission to participating museums across the state.
The Department of Motor Vehicles will begin issuing the Snoopy license plates upon receipt of 7,500 paid applications. Over 5,300 Snoopy plates have already been sold. Only 2,200 more pre-sales are needed to make the Snoopy license plate and a new museum grant program a reality.
Beagle Backers will be able to visit 50 California museums with free or discounted admission during the first year that the Snoopy license plate is in production. "Beagle Backer Passes are an attractive benefit for people who care about museums," said Celeste DeWald, Executive Director of the California Association of Museums. "We want Snoopy plate holders to explore many of the museums they've supported with their purchase." The Beagle Backer Pass currently has a retail value worth nearly $800, but additional museums will continue to sign up to participate in the coming weeks.
Proceeds from Snoopy license plate sales will establish a competitive grant program administered by the California Cultural and Historical Endowment to support California's museums. Sequential plates are $50, while personalized plates are $98.
