SNC-Lavalin Awarded Wind Terminal Switchyard Project in British Columbia
MONTREAL, June 4, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - SNC-Lavalin (TSX: SNC) is pleased to announce that Transmission & Distribution (T&D), a member of the Power group, has been awarded a new project by BC Hydro and Power Authority to produce the design and provide project and construction management services for the new BC Hydro Meikle Wind Terminal—a 230-kilovolt (kV) switchyard located approximately 23 kilometres northwest of Tumbler Ridge in British Columbia, Canada.
The new switchyard will serve as the point of interconnection to the BC Hydro power grid for the Meikle Wind Energy Project, a wind farm being developed in the Peace River region. The wind farm will provide approximately 180 megawatts (MW) of energy, which is enough to power 54,000 homes. The technical design for the 230-kV switchyard is currently underway, and its proposed in-service date is October 31, 2016.
"We are proud to be a part of this new switchyard project because it will provide sustainable power to British Columbians and support our client's environmental objectives," said Pierre St-Arnaud, Executive Vice-President, T&D. "As a leading clean energy solution provider, we will continue to drive innovation by improving our operations and reducing our environmental footprint."
"SNC-Lavalin is committed to delivering projects that generate emission-free, renewable energy," said Sandy Taylor, President, Power. "Through the Meikle Wind Energy Project, we will continue to use our engineering know-how to execute projects that meet some of the world's toughest sustainability standards."
