Smithsonian Curator To Discuss Hope Diamond At Tellus Science Museum
CARTERSVILLE, Ga., Nov. 19, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Dr. Jeff Post, Curator-in-Charge of the Smithsonian's gem and mineral collection, will be at Tellus Science Museum Friday evening November 21 to discuss the notoriety of the Hope Diamond, one of the Smithsonian's most treasured and renowned specimens. In addition to his public talk, he will be available to sign his book The National Gem Collection.
The Hope Diamond is a 45.52-carat deep-blue diamond rumored to be cursed. The gem is housed at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington, DC. Dr. Jeff Post is responsible for the care and maintenance of this extraordinary one-of-a-kind gem.
Dr. Post will begin his lecture at the museum at 7 PM as part of SCIence FRIday NIGHT, a monthly event where the museum stays open late and guests can enjoy a free sponsored planetarium show and the opportunity to stargaze in the observatory (weather permitting).
Dr. Post's lecture precedes the opening of Jeweled Objects of Desire, one of the first of many Smithsonian exhibits to be on display at Tellus Science Museum. Tellus has been a Smithsonian Affiliate since opening in 2009.
