SME Supports Manufacturing Day: New Attitudes and New Opportunities
Local membership chapters, the SME Education Foundation's PRIME network and Tooling U-SME hosting events and activities to drive interest in the manufacturing industry and recognize best practices
DEARBORN, Mich., Sept. 28, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As proud gold sponsors of Manufacturing Day 2015, SME and its subsidiaries, the SME Education Foundation and Tooling U-SME, will be hosting various activities in honor of Manufacturing Day on Oct. 2, as well as throughout the month of October.
Manufacturing Day features nearly 2,000 events nationally among industry, academia and professional organizations including tours and speakers to give modern manufacturers an opportunity to open their doors and show what manufacturing is — and what it isn't. By illustrating contemporary opportunities and industrial environments, manufacturers can begin to address skilled labor shortages, connect with students and future generations.

SME Membership Chapter Activities
SME Membership has nearly 300 local professional and student chapters; many U.S. chapters are hosting events, presentations, career fairs, tours and other activities to share experiences and firsthand demonstrations at a variety of facilities on Oct. 2 and throughout the month. Partnership Response In Manufacturing Education (PRIME) Schools
An SME Education Foundation initiative, PRIME builds collaborative networks between high school students, educators and industry to grow and educate the next-generation workforce. To drive interest and awareness in manufacturing, some PRIME schools will be hosting and participating in open houses, tours of manufacturing facilities, career festivals, industry panels and field trips recognizing Manufacturing Day. In October, SME will celebrate the one-year mark of launching #MFGis, a manufacturing awareness campaign that allows manufacturing students, professionals and anyone affiliated with industry to tell their unique stories. Tooling U-SME Platinum Education Center Awards
In connection with Manufacturing Day, Tooling U-SME, a leader in manufacturing learning and development, will present its Platinum Education Center designation to community and technical colleges nationwide. The Tooling U-SME Platinum Education Center awards are presented to educational facilities that serve as models in the manufacturing industry when it comes to developing an outstanding learning culture. Schools are selected based on adoption of Tooling U-SME's online training program and strong utilization rates of online training in a blended learning format. The award winners will be announced on toolingu.com on Manufacturing Day, Oct. 2.
