DEARBORN, Mich., Oct. 6, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- SME, an organization that serves the manufacturing industry by training the workforce and promoting advanced manufacturing technologies, is pleased to be part of the Alliance for Manufacturing Foresight (MForesight). This newly created consortium will be led by the University of Michigan and is funded by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute of Standards and Technology. This group will serve as a technology-focused consortium to provide input on national manufacturing research and development priorities.
NIST and the NSF recently announced the selection of the University of Michigan to lead the consortium, and SME will serve on the leadership committee, as well as leverage its member network, including those involved with the North American Manufacturing Research Institution of SME (NAMRI/SME) to help provide responses to inquiries on emerging technologies, opportunities and priorities in manufacturing.
"We are pleased that the University of Michigan was selected to lead this consortium and excited for the NAMRI/SME group to lend support," said SME CEO Jeff Krause. "SME has the knowledge and network to provide valuable insights on emerging advanced manufacturing technologies to enable future U.S. leadership in the industry."
According to the NSF, the consortium will:
- Help identify opportunities for federal investments in next-generation technologies.
- Convene national thought leaders to prioritize among emerging technologies.
- Help align advanced manufacturing research, workforce development and outreach with national priorities and challenges.
- Ensure that key stakeholders and broader audiences are made aware of the importance and benefits of advanced manufacturing via an integrated communications strategy.
